REMEZO FRANCES FRAN Age 96, a longtime resident of Universal and member of the Slovenian National Benefit Society Lodge 715, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at Golden Living Center, Murrysville, PA. Born on June 7, 1918, Fran was a devoted wife, caring mother and fun-loving grandmother. She enjoyed good food, accordion music, sports and dancing. Fran bravely raised two baby girls while her young husband fought in WWII, baked the most delicious Slovenian nut roll, danced the Charleston like a pro and had a smile that could light up a room. Fran is survived by daughters, Natalie Cromie and Georgette Sorrentino, both of Florida; as well as son-in-law, Tom Sorrentino; grandchildren, Michael Sorrentino, Jennifer Wohletz, Natasha Brill, Michael Cromie and Sue Cromie; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Angie, Abby, Natalia, Mark, Sam, and Grace. Preceded in death by husband, George Gish Remezo; sisters, Agnes Rubash, Rose Keenan, Ann Marince, Sally Rady, Helen Sheedy and Mary Kumer; brothers, Daniel, Joseph and Thomas Bertovic; and parents, Michael and Agnes Bertovic. Special thanks to the team at Golden Living Center, Hospice nurse, Chris Collins, Hospice aide, Crystal Timko, and friends, Marlene and Tom Dean and Carol Flagle for their attentive care; as well as musician, Kevin Solecki, for brightening her life with accordion Polka music. MILLER JOHN PATRICK Age 79, died peacefully while holding the hands of his family on November 28, 2014. Born on March 16, 1935, in Punxsutawney, PA, he was the son of the late John Paul and Mary Lucy Augustyn Miller. Formerly of Gibsonia, PA, LaPlata, MD, and Little River, SC. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy, of 54 years; daughter, Monica L. Dorsch (Dean) of Harmony, PA; son, Mark D. Miller (Diane) of Alexandria, VA; sisters, Evelyn M. Miller and Barbara Karolick Norris of Punxsutawney, PA; grandchildren, Tyler J. and Stephanie M. Dorsch, Jennifer A. and Jake T. Miller; and six nieces. While enjoying retirement in the Carolinas, Jack was a member of two choirs at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, a proud member of the Calabash American Legion, and loved the game of golf. After serving in the Army in the 1950s, he was employed at Herbick and Held Printing in Pittsburgh for 25 years, and then as a proofreader for the United States Senate Office of the Legislative Counsel in Washington, D.C. until 2003. She leaves to cherish her memory, three sisters, Jean Manghan (Earnest), Pittsburgh, PA, Joan Roberts, Charlotte, NC, and Loretta Roberts, Cleveland, OH; and a brother, David Roberts, Houston, TX; three nieces, Doreen Manghan, Bristow, VA, Darlene Manghan, Charlotte, NC, and Yolanda Cato, Pittsburgh, PA; a nephew, David Roberts (Chantai), Charlotte, NC; seven great-nieces and nephews; two aunts, Gertrude Williams and Louise McMullen, both of Pittsburgh; and a host of other relatives and friends. Martha was educated in the Pittsburgh Public Schools where she graduated from George Westinghouse High School in 1964. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
