
VUKMANIC Sr. MARY CATHERINE, OSU Age 95, died Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Mercy Sacred Heart Home in Louisville, KY. She entered the Ursuline Sisters of Pittsburgh in 1936. Sister Vukmanic was the last member of that congregation which amalgamated with the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1958. She earned her B.A. in English from the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ, an M.A. in English from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and a Th.D. in Theology from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. Sister Vukmanic taught English, Latin, Geometry and Religion at Ursuline Academy in Pittsburgh from 1942-1958. She was an adjunct faculty member of Duquesne University in the 1950s. She was a guest lecturer and an accomplished writer having published more than 200 poems and various periodicals. Sister Vukmanic wrote numerous articles for Catholic journals and magazines, and was a book review editor for the Catholic Home Journal between 1949 and 1959. She also ministered as a professor, administrator and consultant at several sites in Kentucky and Maryland. She is survived by her brother, Walter Vukmanic of Harmony, PA; nieces and nephews; and her Ursuline community. Visitation will be at McCABE BROS., INC. FUNERAL HOME, 5300 Penn Ave., Bloomfield, on Friday, December 5, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by a Prayer Service with Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
