EVA (BAMBERGER) EDELSTEIN Born June 23, 1927 in Lichtenfels, Bavaria (Germany) passed in Monroeville, Pennsylvania at the age of 92, on Thursday, August 22, 2019. Beloved wife of Rabbi Jason Z. Edelstein; loving mother of Philip (Debbie) Edelstein, Sharon (Bradley) Simon and Joseph Edelstein(Lori Defilippi); "Omi" to Rebecca, Max, Jared, Tori and Jordan. In her early years, Eva attended boarding school in Italy and later lived with her family in England (1938-1948) after fleeing the Nazis during World War II. She moved to Charleston, South Carolina in 1948, where she met and married her husband of 67 years, Jason Edelstein in 1952. Together they lived in Williamsburg, Virginia (1952-1953); Cincinnati, Ohio (1953-1958); Honolulu, Hawaii (1958-1960); and Monroeville, Pennsylvania from 1960 until her passing. Eva was a classically trained ballerina who performed with the London Ballet Company and later in Charleston, South Carolina. Eva started teaching ballet in Cincinnati, Ohio and later became the first yoga teacher in the Greater Pittsburgh area when she started teaching out of the family home in 1970. Eva was a pioneer of consumer advocacy who helped establish and grow the Alliance for Consumer Protection. In 1966, Eva was invited by President Johnson to the White House to be recognized for her role in implementing Truth in Packaging legislation. In her 70's and 80's Eva explored her spiritual and artistic inclinations through various course work and personal expressions best reflected in her water color painting and calligraphy works. JEANNE S. MAYO Our mother passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2019. She enjoyed 95 years of living a full life in Pittsburgh. She was an avid reader, loved quilting, was an active member in her church and enjoyed volunteering. She's the loving mother of Virginia Mayo, Barbara Knickerbocker (Thomas), Kathleen Schoeller, Janet Brogan (David), Daniel Mayo (Beverly); and was predeceased by her son, Richard Mayo (Cynthia). Jeanne is also predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Laura Anna (Kramer) Stewart; her brother, James Stewart (Barbara); and her sister, Elizabeth Mohn. She is dearly loved by 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and many many nieces and nephews. Visitation at the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7441 Washington Street, Swissvale. LAWRENCE A. "LARRY" WHITE Age 61, of Mt. Oliver, passed away Sat., August 3, 2019, from complications of pneumonia. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorraine (McCoy); cherished son of Joan (Gordon) Gump and the late Bill L. Gump and Clyde F. White; loving father of Jeremy (Heather), Elizabeth, Kassandra Fair and Larry, Jr.; and grandfather of Ashley. He was the dear brother of Sharon August, David (Peggy), and Christine (Peter) Hoglund. Larry is also survived by nieces and nephews. The family would also like to acknowledge Larry's devoted friend Mary Beth Fair whose care and love for Larry and our family has been a blessing during this difficult time. After graduation from Mt. Lebanon High School, Larry enlisted in the US Navy. He worked at Naval Air Stations in Memphis, Tennessee, Pensacola and Key West, Florida and Oceana and Norfolk, Virginia. He served in the Persian Gulf War aboard the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy as an Aviation Electronics Technician. After retirement from the Navy, Larry pursued his passion and became a chef at several Pittsburgh restaurants. A funeral service will be held at St. Bernard's Church in Mt. FRANCIS J. ZACHERL Age 82, of Hampton, on August 23, 2019. Beloved husband of 62 years of Janice L. (Peffer) Zacherl; loving father of Debbie (Mike) Danner Verderlic, Connie (Frank) Zielinski, Frank (Nancy) Zacherl and Michael (Samuel) Zacherl; brother of George, Edward, Leroy, Jackie Huff, Walter, Jim, Linda Harigan and the late Anita Fox and Charles Zacherl; cherished grandfather of Karie, Kristy, Kelli, Stacey, Timothy, Rebecca, Frank, Katie, and Joseph; also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, Gracey, Barron, Jackson, Julianna, Megan, Abigail, Alexander, Penelope, Max, Cassandra, Julia, and Silas. Frank was the founder and President of F. Zacherl, Inc., which began with rental apartments and later grew to residential HVAC including solar and geothermal heating. Eventually, he signed with Sheet Metal Workers Local #12 and became a commercial sheet metal contractor. He was a member of SMACNA for many years. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing trips, and was a lifetime member of the West View Sportsman Club where he served various positions over the years. JOHN ARTHUR "JACK" DAVIS Age 96, residing in Chesapeake, VA, passed away on August 16, 2019. Jack was born in Verona, PA to Albert Dale Davis and Marion Jeanette Kidd Davis on September 21, 1922. He was preceded in death by nine siblings and spouse, Ruth E. Davis. Jack is survived by second spouse, Nancy; daughter, Navada (Frank) Talotta; son, John (Catherine); seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Shipley. He is also remembered in love by four stepsons; eight step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. He graduated from Penn Hills High School in 1940. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII in the European theater from 1943-1946, serving as a medic with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Jack married Ruth E. Taylor on April 6, 1946 in Verona, PA. Following her death in 1980, he married Nancy Freed McCusker on September 30, 1983. Jack worked in railroad administration for The Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central and Conrail for 40 years. As just a teenager, Wing Lee came to Pittsburgh from humble beginnings in China. Working shoulder to shoulder with Fung, his devoted wife of 79 years, they built a successful laundry business in the heart of Oakland from 1935-1983. After his retirement, he continued to enjoy his five children and and their growing families. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were one of his greatest pleasures, bringing so much laughter and joy to his life. Our father was a strong but gentle man with a soft smile. At the end, he fought hard to stay on this earth with his family but God called him on Friday, August 23, 2019. He will be forever missed by his family. JOAN ROCHIRA GERBOC Peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2019, of Edgewood. Loving and devoted wife of 32 years to the late William D. Gerboc; daughter of the late Antonietta (Zegarelli) and Francesco Rochira; loving mother of Cheryl Kirkland and her husband, David of Edgewood; stepmother of Kathleen Clark and William David Gerboc II; sister of the late Dolores Cardamone. Joan is also survived by her many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gerboc was a partner at Lighting Pittsburgh in Dormont for over 30 years. She loved working with builders and homeowners on their commercial and residential lighting needs. Also, she had a successful career in real estate. Joan was the past President of the Edgewood Cot Club and a member of the Edgewood Civic Club and Edgewood Garden Club and Meals on Wheels. Joan was a devoted daughter, wife, loving mother, cherished aunt and friend. She loved her family and found joy in them and her treasured friends. May her memory always be a blessing. MILDRED MARIAM PETCASH BOZIGAR Our cherished mother, Mildred Mariam Petcash Bozigar, of Harmony Township, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2019, at the age of 96. Born March 30, 1923, in Helvetia, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, William John Bozigar; her parents, Mary Pinchot Petcash and Stephen Petcash; her dear sister, Mary Vizza; and her brother, Richard Petcash. She is survived by her youngest and beloved sister, Evelyn Jane Petcash Williams; and by her loving children, Gary and Virginia, James and Jim, Marilyn Quinn, and Robyn Anne Grieco. Her grandchildren, Gary, Lesley, Collin, Alexandra, Ross, and Addison will miss her deeply, as will her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Abigail, Devan, and Santino. She was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews and a devoted friend to many who knew her. We were all lucky to be loved by her and will be reminded of her every time we experience a great meal or have her favorite, chocolate covered strawberries. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 4:00-6:30 p.m. in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME. Family and friends are invited to meet Wednesday at noon for a Funeral Service in the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Economy.
