ELNORA (SCHWEINEBRATEN) PHILLIPS Age 95, formerly of Upper St. Clair, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Henry Phillips; loving mother of Donna (Jerry) Thrasher, Joan (late Rick) Kerlin, and Joseph (Cindie) Phillips; grandmother of Tanya (William Cabeza) Thrasher; proud Nana of Kaden and Chase Thrasher; daughter of the late Harry and Nora Schweinebraten; and sister of the late Ray Schweinebraten. Known as “Ellie” or “Mrs. P” to most, she and her husband, Joe, raised a family and traveled the world in their later years. She was very social and loved to play Scrabble, which she usually won. Spending time with her great-grandsons was her greatest joy. She was an active member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Bridgeville, PA for over 80 years. Beloved husband of Pam (Pallette) Mitsch; dear father of Mya, Emily, and Eli Mitsch; brother of Chuck (Kathy), Ed (Alison), Steve (Nori) Mitsch and Joyce (Gary) Gibson; also survived by nieces and nephews. Son of the late Chuck and Elaine (Jungling) Mitsch. Bill was a graduate of WV Wesleyan and soon after, began his career as a Mechanical Engineer with Siemens where he was employed for 28 years. He had a passion for cars and a love of classic rock but nothing compared to the love he had for family. If Bill wasn't busy working with his hands, you could find him at the Hockey rink or at a Cheerleader competition, cheering for his children. His infectious laugh and caring heart will be missed by all who knew him. GALE "GRAMMY" GARWOOD Of Bethel Park, on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, age 85; loving mother of Jack (Mary Fran), Buzz (Becky), Tammy Weger (Jamie), Jodi Bewick (Rick) and the late Kip Garwood; mother-in-law of Kimberly Garwood; daughter of the late Selma and Walter Labs; sister of the late Jack Labs; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Gale was born in Hammond, Indiana on March 23, 1934. For over 30 years Gale drove a school bus, specializing in children with special needs, for the Bethel Park School District. A consummate mother and homemaker, she was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals and desserts for her family and friends. Her door was always open as well to strangers and new friends alike in need. Gale had a passion for sports, from youth to the professional level coupled by an unwavering support of her children. She served as team mom for the Bethel Park swim team, actively supporting team events and meets for not only her five children but others. Gale also was a staple at South Hills baseball fields and basketball courts, again always in support of her grandchildren. She always looked forward to Steelers Sunday. Beloved husband of the late Patricia (Berry) Stoker; loving father of Douglas (Diane) Stoker and Deborah (John) Kirsch; proud grandfather of Blake (Aarin) Stoker, Matthew Kirsch, Evan (Andrea) Kirsch, Austin (Nicole) Stoker and Stephen Kirsch; dearest great-grandfather of Andrew “Drew” Kirsch, Otillia Stoker and Orion Stoker; beloved son of the late George and Mabel (Johnson) Stoker; loving brother of the late George Stoker and (Margaret) “Maggie” Stoker; and devoted uncle and friend to many. Cal had a very generous heart and was truly devoted to his family and helping others. For many years, he volunteered at the North Hills Community Outreach (Faith in Action). He met many wonderful people as he provided transportation service to doctor's appointments, grocery stores and pharmacies. Cal spent 20 years with Studebaker Motor Company. He retired from the Glenshaw Glass Company after an enjoyable 20-year career. He was a member of the Memorial Park Presbyterian Church in McCandless Twp. Cal was a Corporal in the United States Army during WWII. Cal always had a love for music and his piano playing provided all of us many hours of enjoyment, especially when he played for hours on his 90th birthday party. BRIAN DONALDSON Age 49, passed away peacefully in St. Louis, MO on August 5, 2019 after a courageous battle against esophageal cancer. He was a graduate of Franklin Regional High School, earned a Bachelor Degree in Finance from Pennsylvania State University and later a Master's degree from The Smeal College Of Business from Penn State. He started his career with Edward Jones in Franklin, PA in 1992. In 2006, he moved to London, England to help establish an Edward Jones presence in The UK before moving to their company headquarters in St. Louis as a General Partner. He is survived by his wife, Anya; his stepson, Max of St. Louis, MO; his parents, Dave and Carol Donaldson of Murrysville; his favorite sister, Lisa of Pittsburgh and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He loved his family and friends...and people, in general. He always had a smile, a kind word and a willingness to nurture everyone that he met. MARY ELLEN PALLATINO Unexpectedly on Thursday, August 22, 2019, age 68, of Point Breeze. Beloved daughter of Sarah E. and the late William Pallatino; sister of Michael Pallatino (Denise), Jeffrey Pallatino (Sonya), Mark Pallatino (DeeAnna), and the late William “Dan” Pallatino; aunt of Chelsea and Danny Pallatino and Ellie and Adam Hansen; sister-in-law of Gina Pallatino. Mary Ellen or “Mimi” as her family called her, lived a full life. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and the University of Pittsburgh. Later, she went on to study Arabic where she learned to read and write the language. Besides the love she had for all of her cats and dogs and the many animal rescue organizations she contributed to, her other passion was anything to do with books, where she enjoyed a long career managing the Squirrel Hill bookstore. Later, she went on to work for the IRS until her retirement. Her retirement years were consumed with taking care of her elderly mother whom she adored and took such good care of. Mimi will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She had a kind heart. Funeral and Interment Private. DR. JERE DEE GALLAGHER Dr. Jere Dee Gallagher, a highly respected and admired professor and expert on child development, who spent the greater part of her career at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Education, passed away peacefully at her home on Mt. Washington on Aug. 20, 2019. Jere, 70, was an Associate Dean at Pitt and was instrumental in developing the Kinder Kinetics Program in the Health and Physical Activity Department, a program she directed for more than 25 years and was her life's work. Born in Panama City, Panama in December 1948, Jere traveled the world with her family on her father's army assignments, eventually settling in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She attained her bachelor's and master's degrees in Health and Physical Education from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, and a PhD in Motor Development from Louisiana State University. Jere began her teaching career at Southern Illinois University as an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Education. She joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh in 1982. The Kinder Kinetics Program she developed at Pitt for children ages 3-12 has since been renamed, “Pitt's Kids: Honoring the Vision of Dr. Jere Gallagher.” The program was honored in 2008 with United Cerebral Palsy's Humanitarian Award and is nationally renowned for its innovations. She was the author of several books, journals and manuscripts on child development and growth. Jere mentored many students and presented at numerous national conferences. Prior to her retirement, she established, in honor of her late parents, The Col. (Ret.) James Dee Gallagher and 1st Lt. Jean Gallagher, R.N., Endowed Fund through Pitt's Office of Veteran Services. The fund provides financial assistance to veterans and dependents while they pursue their education. The Health and Physical Activity Program, where Jere was on faculty for many years, renamed their student service award in her memory. The Dr. Jere Gallagher Community Service Award annually recognizes students for their contributions to public service. Jere is survived by a sister, Salli Gallagher of Cary, NC; a niece, Kim Royal, and her husband, Charles Royal of Raleigh, NC; a nephew, John Larkin Spell of Clinton, NC; and a brother-in-law, Dr. John McPhail of Clinton. She was the best “Great Aunt Jere” to Barrett Royal Barton and her husband, Stephen; and Chip Royal. Jere was the devoted wife and partner of H. Yale Gutnick for more than 30 years, and was beloved by his children, Laura and Todd Gutnick, their spouses, Dan Bogesdorfer and Aviva Gutnick, and all of their children. Jere has also been the Godmother to Eliza and Travis Luxbacher, the children of her dear friends, Joe and Gail Luxbacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Jean Gallagher, and her beloved sister, Micki Gallagher McPhail. There will be no visitation. FRANCIS XAVIER PAWLOSKY, M.D. Passed away at the age of 94, on August 21, 2019. Frank was born on November 29, 1924 in Hickory, PA to Francis and Leona Pawlosky. He served in the Navy during WWII, earning honorable remarks such as the American Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon. Frank went on to earn his bachelors degree at Westminster College, followed by medical school at the University of Pittsburgh. He practiced family medicine for over 50 years in Mount Lebanon, PA, where he pioneered the concept of the emergency room. He was also the plant physician at General Electric and Universal Cyclops Steel. Frank had a passion for farming, especially when tending to his farm at Lake Suzanne, playing the violin, gardening and giving to numerous charities. Most of all, he loved his family. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Joseph (Edna) Pawlosky and Anthony (Mary) Pawlosky. Survivors include his beloved wife, Betty (nee McClements) Pawlosky; children, Suzanne Grevey and Mark McKinney; grandchildren, Kristen (Kyle) Anderson, Morgan (Andrew) Dick, Stephanie Grevey and Justin McKinney; nieces, Nancy Koppenhafer and Barbara Burdette; caregiversm Darlene Whitlock, Paula Faust and Renee Salazar; and other loving friends and family members. Born on April 1, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Catherine and Ernest Kehm. Beloved wife to Darryl Adams for 46 years; loving mother to Devon (Kristine) Adams, Jaime (Sierra) Adams, and Meghan (Adam) Ehrlichman; cherished Mimi to Claire Adams and Avery Ehrlichman. She will also be dearly missed by her pets Koda, Toby, and Stella. Sally Beth loved going to estate sales and thrift shopping. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, August 25, 2019 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at PITTSBURGH CREMATION AND FUNERAL CARE, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, (724) 260-5546.
