MARTIN MARY B. Upper Yoder Twp., died June 30, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Mary was the wife of Rev. Father Charles P. Martin, retired Rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Johnstown. They recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. They were united in Holy Matrimony in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Mt. Lebanon. They were the parents of six children, James Charles, born in 1960, and died as an infant, J. Christopher, born 1961, of Falls Church, VA, Stephen Richard (Jane), born 1963, of Berlin, PA, Thomas Robert, born 1965, and died as the result of a fall, in 1985, Susan Elizabeth Von Schondorf, born 1966, of Wescosville, PA, and Timothy William (Rachel), born 1969, of Beaver; four grandchildren, Jami, Heather, Matthew and Zane. Mary was the daughter of the late George A. and Elizabeth Lena (Lyons) Balch. Her father died in 1937, and her mother then married Rev. Harold Day, both deceased; she also was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Smith; and a brother, George W. Balch. Mary was a graduate of Carnegie Tech, now Carnegie Mellon, with a degree in food services, and worked as a dietician in the Pittsburgh public schools for three years. Upon moving to Johnstown, she worked for many years in food services at Westmont School District, mostly at the Junior High. He was past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He joined the Pennsylvania American Water Company as a supervisor later becoming a director of risk and materials and retired in 1998. KELSESKY THOMAS V. Age 79, of Harmar Twp., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 27, 2013. Tom was the beloved husband of 58 years of Virginia E. (Mazza) Kelsesky; loving father of Ellen K. Hayes (Tim), Thomas J. Kelsesky, and Julie A. Ashby (Matt); devoted grandfather of Kelsey, Jenna, and Christopher Hayes, and T.J., Kaitlyn, and Kendra Kelsesky; and brother of Walter Kelsesky, Ruth Andrews, and Rita Engels. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary Kelsesky. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Tom earned a diploma from North Catholic High School, a Bachelor's degree in education from Slippery Rock University, and a Master's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh. His career began as a classroom teacher of social studies, followed by many years in the insurance industry as a claims supervisor. After his great affection and dedication to his family, perhaps most people associated Tom with his love of dogs, his wonderful sense of humor, and his lifelong passion for the University of Notre Dame. Somewhere in heaven, Tom is keeping Frank Leahy and Knute Rockne company and loving every second of it.
