PARAGGIO G. EDMOND “EDDIE” Age 93, of Penn Hills, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2015. He was born in Italy and immigrated to the United States when he was 16 years old. He attended Westinghouse High School and graduated as class valedictorian in 1942. At Westinghouse, he met and eventually married his bride of 66 years, Carmella (Billie) Garofalo. Together, they raised a family while he worked as a bricklayer. He served in the US Army in the Military Police during WW II and later served as Guard of Honor at President Franklin Roosevelt's funeral. He was always a loving and giving individual and after his retirement, he volunteered for many years at Seneca Nursing Home, Meals on Wheels and the American Cancer Society. He is survived by his wife, "Billie"; sister, Santina Trevisiol (Rico), of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada; daughters, Debbie Ostien (Rick), of Tolland, CT, Cindy Franceschelli (Patsy), of Murrysville; and son, Paul Paraggio (Lynne), of Centreville, VA. He was a proud and loving grandfather and wonderful role model to Matt Ostien, Danielle Kneeland (Mike), Dante and Seve Franceschelli, and Alex and Carlo Paraggio. Several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly also survive him. Friends will be received from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at CHARLES W. TRENZ FUNERAL HOME, 11110 Frankstown Rd., Penn Hills, PA 15235. Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015, at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church in Penn Hills, followed by interment in Allegheny Cemetery. (Bergman); loving father of Faith (Matthew) Thompson of McCandless and Bonnie (Edward) Abplanalp of Warren, PA; cherished grandfather of Stephen and Matthew Abplanalp, Joshua and Sara Thompson; brother of Ann Zacharias, Pete Ivancik and the late Mike and Nick Ivancik, Jewell Pestapack and Katherine Fobas. Stephen served in the US Navy during WWII, serving at NTS WimVa, 62nd NCB and on the USS South Dakota in the South Pacific. He was employed at Western Hills School for over 20 years where he enjoyed working with the staff and loved serving the students. His biggest enjoyment in life was spending time with his grandchildren. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the ORION C. Howard was one of two children of the late Robert and Dorothy (Peroney) McBride. A mechanic and parts manager for many Chrysler and Dodge dealerships, owner of McBride Auto Repair. A U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Korea during the Vietnam Conflict. Member of the American Legion Daniel Keffer Post #75 in Clairton for 50 years, holding many offices including Post Commander, 36th District and Western Vice Commander for the Dept. of PA. Husband of 47 years to Jean (Cyphers) McBride; father of Dorothy (Robert), Howard II (Sally) and Patricia (Alan); grandfather of Blake; and brother of the late Sandy Varna. He was a beloved educator at Greenway Middle School, as well as Westwood Elementary for many years. Avid golfer and that smile that could light up a room will be greatly missed by friends, family and the many he taught over the years. SOVEK ALFRED R. “AL” Age 74, of Cranberry Township, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015. Born September 1, 1940, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Alfred Joseph and Susanna (Jurjevic) Sovek. Al was a 1958 graduate of Perry High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War and retired from the U.S. Naval Reserves. Al was an active member of the V.F.W. Post #879 in Cranberry Township for many years. After 30 years of dedicated service, he retired from Teamsters Local #249. Al will be most remembered for the love he had for his wife, children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and friends. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his four loving children, Denise Sovek, Alan Sovek, Russell Sovek and Zachary Sovek; his brother, Robert Sovek; his nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Geraldine M. "Gerry" (Yeager) Sovek, who he married on January 25, 1967. The Sovek family will welcome friends on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the GLENN - KILDOO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 130 Wisconsin Avenue, Cranberry Township. RUCH ROBERT WAYNE Retired Avalon, PA Police Officer, Robert Wayne Ruch, age 79, died January 24, 2015, at his home, of natural causes, in Emsworth, Pennsylvania. Mr. Ruch was born March 19, 1935, in Iowa. He served in the United States Army in the Honor Guard. Following his service, Mr. Ruch continued to serve as an Officer with the Kilbuck and Avalon Police departments until his retirement. Mr. Ruch was an active member of North Hills Boroughs and Township Police Association. Bob was an avid fisherman and hunter. Robert Ruch is survived by his children, Mark Ruch of Emsworth, PA, Alisa Welsch of Florida, Andrea Montgomery of S.
