CONTIS CATHERINE Age 86, of Pittsburgh, peacefully at home on Thursday, December 11, 2014, with her family by her side. Cathy is survived by her daughter, Jamie Contis; sister, Toula Peterson; and nephews, John (Mary) Peterson and Father Michael (Kandelia Texas). She was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas G. Contis; brother, Louis (Margo) Xidis; nephew, Billy Peterson; and her newfound best friend, lapdog Zoe. Cathy was a kind and gentle person who gave freely to others and to her church. She not only cooked for the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Food Festival for over 50 years but she was the Godmother to the church when it was consecrated in 1962. She loved to bake, sew, knit, embroider, and make elaborate decorations; anything creative to keep her hands busy. In keeping with her wishes, her service will be private in Arlington National Cemetery where her beloved husband lays in rest. She was a good friend to those around her and in lieu of donations would appreciate anyone performing an act of kindness in her memory, whatever you chose that to be.
