STUBNA SISTER HILDA, CSA Sister Hilda (Barbara) Stubna, CSA, died peacefully on March 23, 2014, at Nazareth Center in Fond du Lac, WI. Barbara Stubna was born in Scrubgrass Hollow, PA, on October 11, 1919, to Ferdinand Stubna and Maria Csara Stubna. She was one of eleven children, four boys and seven girls. Her sister, Helen, Sister Edna, became a Sister of St. Agnes in August of 1938. Barbara entered the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes one year later and made first profession of vows as Sister Hilda on August 15, 1942. She received a B.S. in Education from Marian College of Fond du Lac and an M.A. in English from Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS. Sister Hilda was an elementary school teacher for 29 years in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, New York, and Kansas. She worked as a receptionist at The Leo House in New York City for 12 years. For 17 years, she was missioned in Yonkers, NY, providing service at Sacred Heart High School and in the church sacristy. Her last mission assignment was Holy Family, Bronx, NY, where she volunteered in the parish rectory and also did substitute teaching. In 2004 she moved to Nazareth Court and Center in Fond du Lac to help her sister, Sister Edna, who was in frail health. Sister Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, David, Ferdinand, Steven, and Michael; her sisters, Ida Clark, Mathilda Grandinette, Mary Mondine, Theresa Michels, and Sister Edna Stubna, CSA. Sister Hilda is survived by her sister, Irene Pagliai; many nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed, and ministered. All Services are being held on Thursday, March 27, 2014, in Fond du Lac, WI.
