MEDVICK CLARE ANN Clare Ann Medvick, 59, passed away on January 22, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Bernard and Dorothy Darkowski. Clare was born and raised in Pittsburgh, but always dreamed of the beach. After graduating from nursing school, she headed to the warmth and sands of Virginia Beach, and her love of the beach never left. Although she resided in Chesapeake, her heart was in the Outer Banks, where she spent summers in Kitty Hawk, N.C. Her last two summers were spent volunteering at the N.C. Aquarium on Roanoke Island where she developed a new love for turtles and the NEST program. Clare was a registered nurse for 36 years and devoted her career to patient rights while working for several local Sentara hospitals and the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughter. Clare is survived by her husband of 35 years, Steve Medvick; three sons, Jason, Garrett and Kristian Medvick; and brother, Anthony Darkowski (Jennifer) of Pittsburgh. The family will receive friends at STURTEVANT FUNERAL HOME, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel on Friday, January 26, from 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 27, at 1 p.m. in St. Christopher's Episcopal Church on Cedar Lane in Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to N.E.S.T., Network for Endangered Sea Turtles P.O. Box 1073 Kitty Hawk NC 27949. SturtevantFuneralHome.com Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
