BABURICH ROBERT A. BUTCH A lifelong resident of Chalfant Borough, age 78, on Sunday, January 21, 2018. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Barbara (Bukovac) Baburich; beloved brother of Joanne Baburich with whom he resided; cousin of Cindy (Joe) Midgett, Donna (Bob) Trbovich and John (Sherri) Bukovac. Bob was a 1958 graduate of Turtle Creek High School, attended Robert Morris College and graduated from Pittsburgh Barber School. In 1961, Bob was elected in Chalfant as the youngest Justice of the Peace in the country and, over the past 40 years, he has served as Tax Collector for Chalfant. Bob worked with his Dad in their family barber shop in East Pittsburgh and later moved to Chalfant. After his Dad's death, Bob continued as a barber until retiring in 2011. The shop was the hub of Chalfant for local news, history, events and discussions. Bob enjoyed bowling and fishing. He bowled in leagues and tournaments and bowled a 300 game at the former Terrace Recreation Lanes in East Pittsburgh on January 24, 1979. At that time, 300 games were extremely rare, only a few every year in Western PA. He loved to fish in Canada with his Canadian relatives and, locally, at Galitizin State Park. But Bob's fondest passion was his Croatian heritage and its music. He was a lifelong member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, Lodge #141 and was a talented musician. Bob played all of the traditional Croatian instruments with various Croatian orchestras. With the Balkan Four, he played the Bass. Bob played the bugarija with the Novi Glas, the Nasi Tamburasi, the St. George Adult Tamburitzans and the Penn Sembles. He also was adept at strumming the Prim and the Brac'. Friends are welcome on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at PATRICK T. LANIGAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, 412-824-8800 where a Blessing Service will be held on Thursday. Time later. Bob will be laid to rest in Monongahela Cemetery. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
