RUDOV GERTRUDE ELAINE (KELLER) Age 80, and passing away on January 12, 2017. While working as a cashier at a movie house in Mount Oliver, Elaine met her soon-to-be husband, Melvin Rudov, an usher at the theater. The two married in 1956 and relocated to Fort Lee, VA, welcoming their first son, David. Elaine shortly returned to her hometown, Pittsburgh, where her second son, Cornell was born. Not long after, Elaine moved her family to Dayton, Ohio, relishing the role of mother as they prepared to welcome a third son, Theodore. The family moved to Los Angeles for a few weeks, and Buffalo for a few years, where Elaine became a founding and active member of the League of Women Voters of Williamsville, New York. She championed efforts to clean the beaches of Lake Erie and the public parks of Western New York. In Buffalo, she also found herself taking an active role in research at the Roswell Park Memorial Cancer Institute, something typically reserved for men of the time. In 1969, the family returned to and found their lasting home in Pittsburgh, PA. Elaine worked at the University of Pittsburgh, finished her undergraduate degree, and became the first female assistant to the chancellor, Wesley Posvar. Thereafter, she worked for Francis Sargent Cheever, president of the University Health Center (now UPMC), while obtaining a master's degree in Public Health. In her later years, she found companionship with her good friend, James Casimir Wisniewski "Wiz", and faith and love in the Jewish community. "Morah" Elaine taught at the Yeshiva, volunteered at the Holocaust Center, and spent many years devoted to the care and education of young children, including her three grandchildren, Daniel, Lindsey, and Roxanne. Together, Elaine and Wiz shared movies, debate, laughter, and delight in the lives of those close to them. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Gertrude Keller; and her dearest and trusted friend, Wiz. Her survivors include her sister, Carole Chapman (Bob); her sons, David (Jane), Cornell (Susan), Ted (Lynne); and her grandchildren, Daniel, Lindsey, and Roxanne. Service and burial were private. The family suggests any donations made in Elaine's memory be to her beloved Yeshiva School, 2100 Wightman St., Pittsburgh, PA 15217. ALCORN FUNERAL HOME in Hawthorn is handling the arrangements.
