HELWIG DIANE Of Cape Coral, Florida, formerly of Mt. Lebanon, died November 15, 2015, age 90. She was born on Wheeling Island, West Virginia to Kenneth Ketchum and Bess Parker Ketchum and was raised and spent most of her adult life in Mt. Lebanon before moving to Sanibel Island, Florida in the 1980s. Diane was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Gilbert Helwig; and her brother, Chandler Ketchum. She is survived by her son, David (Jane Ann) of Mt. Lebanon; and daughters, Lisa Chandler (Ken) of Perth, Australia, Erika Foye (Marty) of Pine Island, Florida and Anne Helwig (Kevin) of Tucson, Arizona; and grandchildren, Greta and Sheena Foye and Gillian and Robert Helwig. Diane attended the University of Pittsburgh and worked as a reporter for the Pittsburgh Press before the birth of her son. She was active in the Top Hatters dance club and Mt. Lebanon Women's Tennis, was a docent at Carnegie Museum of Art and was a host for the Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors. She was instrumental in establishing Mt. Lebanon's Outside Inn teen recreation center in the late 1960s. Her husband and children were her top priority, but she also was generous to her friends, passionate about the visual arts and loved to entertain and to travel in the U.S. and abroad. No visitation or memorial service is scheduled at this time. Her ashes will be interred in the Ketchum burial plot in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery at a future date.
